Frankly Frankie Productions, in collaboration with the Green Zoo, proudly presents Art vs Freedom: A First Amendment Cabaret, an artistic celebration of civil liberties, specifically, freedom of artistic expression, born from a recent lawsuit where the State of Idaho attempted to define what is and is not art.
The First Amendment Cabaret highlights the importance of freedom of artistic expression with an all-star line up of Boise-based artists, whose performance mediums include clowning, burlesque, puppetry, acrobatics and aerial acrobatics, drag, opera and belly dance.
This vaudevillian presentation is meant to be a cautionary tale of how quickly our civil liberties can be undermined and destroyed if we the people are not actively engaged in their protection.
In the case against the State of Idaho, the artists fought back against the unconstitutionality of the state law, ultimately they were victorious, and the law was rewritten.
In Art vs Freedom, we examine the irrationality of our current political administration through the lens of a “government official,” played Armitage Shanks, and explore what could happen if our specific outcome were different and what may happen as our constitutional rights continue to be jeopardised.
